How to Perform a Fresh / Clean Install of Windows 11

In this post, we take a look at performing a fresh/clean install of Windows 11. This includes starting a clean install from within a running version of Windows or a hard disk/SSD with no previous Windows installations.   1. IMPORTANT: Before you start make sure that your PC has the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 11 (If you are unsure whether your PC meets these requirements, you can use the PC Health Check app to assess compatibility):
Processor1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC). Supported Intel Processors Supported Qualcomm Processors Supported AMD Processors
RAM4 gigabyte (GB).
Storage64 GB or larger storage device.
System firmwareUEFI, Secure Boot capable.
TPMTrusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
Graphics cardCompatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
DisplayHigh definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel.
Internet connection and Microsoft account Windows 11 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft account. Switching a device out of Windows 11 Home in S mode also requires internet connectivity.
  1. Once you have your Windows 11 installation media ready, all you need to do is boot from the disc or USB thumb drive to begin setup. If you don't have install media, see instructions: How to download official Windows 11 ISO files from Microsoft official website.

  2. Once your computer is set to boot from your bootable device (eg: USB Pen Drive), you should see this option. Press any key to start the installation.

  1. Select your Language, Time and Keyboard method then click Next.

  1. Click Install now

  1. Windows 11 setup will prompt you for a product key during installation a couple times. Click 'I don't have a key' and 'Do this later' .

  1. Setup will also prompt you to select the edition you have a license for - Home or Pro. Please make sure you choose the right edition. If you choose the wrong edition, your only option will be to perform a clean install again.

  1. Accept the license terms then click Next

  1. Click Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)

NOTE: Sometimes Windows 11 setup can become confused if it see's a thumb drive. You might get a driver missing error or something to that effect. If you do, restart setup, but this time, when you arrive at the following screen, disconnect your thumb drive then go through Custom options. When setup is ready copy files, it will prompt you to reconnect the installation source (your USB).

  1. Select the desired installation drive then click Next

  1. Wait while Windows installs

  1. When this phase of setup is complete, Windows will automatically restart then reboot into setup again.

  1. Setup screen will show, Start choosing your country, Keyboard layout .

  1. Sit back and relax while the magic happens

  1. Choose your how would you like to setup your device (personal use is the most common choice).

  1. Complete the rest by entering your personal details (Microsoft account, Name, Password .etc ). After that, just sit and wait few minutes
